Football Time!

David is on his school's flag football team this season, they are the Bills.  His teacher is also the football coach, so last week one of his homework assignments was to work on some plays for the team.  He is loving it!!  But today was their first game.  He is one of the team captains so he got to do the coin toss. He had a great time! He says that they won today, I wouldn't be able to tell you what the score was...I'm not a very good football mom, although I was a ton calmer at the football game than I am at baseball!  I have NO clue what is going on or if I should be cheering or not, or how to keep score (good thing I sat by the coach's fiance!)
(sorry the pictures are really not straight, I was taking them on my phone with Nathan on my lap)

Nay-Nay

I am SO proud of Nathan today!  He had to do a cat scan this morning and he did it like a pro! Why a cat scan??  The last few months he has been getting pretty sick pretty often, it is usually strep, ear infections or sinus infections.  He has a sinus infection that has lasted probably a good 3-4 months, it isn't always a green/yellow nose, but he's been super congested all the time. We did a sinus x-ray a few weeks ago, and Dr. Manthei wasn't able to see what he wanted to, there was a pool in his sinuses, but wasn't a very good image, probably because it took me & two techs to hold Nathan's head in place as he was screaming and trying to get away.  So after that experience I was really nervous to have to do the cat scan, even more so when they told me they were going to sedate him!  So, Nathan & I dropped Tommy off at grandma's house this morning and went to his appointment.

He colored on the back of his paperwork while we waited.  Of course Mickey & Minnie had to come with us!!
Then they took us back and gave him some valium & apple juice and he and I sat in the rocking chair and rocked for a little bit while the valium kicked in.  When we went back to the imaging room he laid down on the bed & got strapped in.  There was a lead apron under his arms covering his body & the head strap on him. He was able to have Mickey & Minnie with him :)  I stood  next to him & rubbed his leg for comfort and kept my other hand under his chin to help him keep his head still.  Once they started the bed moved forward & backward through the machine, Nathan got a really big smile on his face, looked at me & said "wwweeeeee"!!!  The nurse giggled & smiled and told him to hold really still, so he smiled a little grin and whispered wwwweeee to me.  If I looked him in the eyes, he would start to giggle & smile, so we avoided eye contact.  But he held still and they were able to get some great images!! They said the doctor would have the results by Friday at the latest, so hopefully we will know something soon!
He got lots of prizes for being SO good!!  The nurses just loved him!  He got silly bands, a sucker & a sticker.

our week

What a crazy week!!  We started on Sunday with Tommy complaining he didn't feel good and was running a high fever along with a nasty sounding cough, so Monday morning we went to the doctor turns out he had strep again & a nasty virus that is going around (we go Tuesday for an ENT consult) and since Thomas is a stubborn stinker, had to get an antibiotic shot & another one Wednesday. Our doctor checked Nathan while we were there and he had it too, so he got a prescription.  Tommy ran between 103-105 for four days before he finally had a normal temperature again. He was so high because he refuses medication, I can't force it in him. If I try it orally he makes himself throw up, even if I try to hide it in something and if I try to do it rectally, he still manages to get it out.  Stubborn stinker!!  Although Tommy was doing much better, just coughing still on Wednesday Nathan started coughing and running a high (104) temperature.  Since he is already on antibiotics for the strep & I know it is the virus that Tommy had, we didn't go back in.  Nathan is still running a fever but I am able to keep it down with meds. I stress with Nathan having a fever since he has had seizures in the past.  This morning David woke up complaining that his throat hurts and coughing!  Does it ever end?! I love that my boys are sharing, but really, we don't need to share our germs and illnesses!!

We did go to our baseball games today though, Tommy's team played first and of course won, he had a couple good hits and had fun digging in the dirt while playing shortstop.  David's team also won today 11-1, they called the game early due to "mercy rule" which is one team is up by 10, now his team is 3-0 for the season! David played catcher the entire game too.

The little boys have spent most of their week on the couch sleeping it off.  Tommy even missed 2 days of school and baseball!

baseball

Today was our first day of baseball games! And it was super crappy weather! All week it's been beautiful, we have been wearing shorts & having the a/c on in the car.  Today, we were in long sleeves, jackets, and had the heater on.  It was super windy which doesn't help baseball games!

David's game was first today, they won 12-6! Great job Giants!! (orange team)  David is their catcher, which he LOVES, and I don't, he plays great as catcher and enjoys it but it is such a high stress position for me I think sometimes I'd rather him be out in the outfield picking flowers!  It is pretty neat though, about today David's cousin Scott is on the same team this season, Scott is one of their pitchers (actually pitching in the picture below), D & Scott did amazing this morning during the first 4 innings they were together, they had no runs scored against them!  Good job boys!
The picture above is David catching, the picture below is David at bat.  He had 3 at bats today & got walked each time!
Tommy's game was at 11 today.  It was SO much windier for his game than David's making it a lot colder.  Tommy doesn't do very well in the cold, but he played great!! In t-ball they don't keep score, but we won.
Tommy is in the center of this picture
We have spent the longest time trying to figure out if Tommy is right or left handed... He colors right handed, writes left, uses a fork/spoon with his right but picks up with his left,  so of course it would only be natural for him to catch right handed and bat left!! So here is T batting
And I love this picture of Tommy, he is running to home plate, but is running pretty slow right on the chalk line so that he can "get all the white off"!!
Overall, the boys had a great first day of baseball.  Nathan was in heaven playing at the playgrounds and riding his bike around today.  Kinda funny, in this league they do the numbers on the jersey 1-12 1 being the smallest & 12 being the biggest.  Tommy is #1, David is #12.

opening ceremonies

Tonight the boys had opening ceremonies for baseball!

 David is on the Giants
& Tommy is on the Cardinals.

 My 2012 little league players!

This is Tommy's team... Tommy is the one without his hat on
& David's team, David is the one right behind the banner kind of in the center
The boys did good at opening ceremonies, it is hard to sit through!!  Even Nathan did pretty good, he watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on youtube on my phone for most of it.  The boys are both excited for their first games in the morning!

pinewood derby

David had his last pinewood derby as a cub scout tonight!  His car was pretty fast, in his race it came in first 3 times, and 2nd one time, but it wasn't fast enough to beat out the "dad made cars" overall in the races. But it's ok, he had fun making it with Papa!  Good job D!

yikes!

Tommy's schedule for t-ball is up too!  Looking at these two schedules just with baseball for the next 3 months is a little overwhelming!  Oh well, it'll be fun!! And luckily they don't have to many games that are at the same time!  Go Cardinals! Go Giants!

so the fun begins!

Little league season officially starts for us on Friday with opening ceremonies!  This season I have 2 boys playing.  David is on the Giants & Tommy is playing t-ball on the Cardinals.  We don't have Tommy's schedule yet, but when I get it I will put it on here by David's (right side of blog).  We would LOVE to have extra cheerleaders if you are able to make it to any of the boys games!

Nathan & Mickey

After we dropped Tommy off at school today Nathan & I went to Kohls to get David a bigger size cage pants, which were on sale now so we got a merchandise credit, we grabbed the size we needed and headed to the front of the store.  On our way Nathan found a shelf in the baby/toddler area that had Disney stuffed animals on it. He started yelling "Mickey, Minnie mommy!" And grabbed both!!  I negotiated with him that he could get one, he picked Mickey.  He LOVES Mickey Mouse!!  He has a Mickey shirt that he wears, sleeps in and wears the next day. I can not physically take it off of him, if I manage to get it off he tears the hamper apart until he finds it, takes off his new shirt & puts the Mickey shirt back on.
Nathan with Mickey on our way home
Once we got home Nathan wanted to go play outback, he took Mickey with him.  I went a couple minutes later to check on him and found him like this holding Mickey walking around the yard talking to Mickey.
He even went and introduced Mickey to our neighbors dog Jasmin.  Nathan & Jasmin have a special love for eachother, before we leave the house Nathan has to give a "mmmmm" (kiss) to Jasmin.  He got a kiss from Jasmin for Mickey.
Then he drove Mickey around the patio in his car until he heard Mickey Mouse Clubhouse come on, now they are sitting inside on the couch watching Mickey together.
I just love this sweet, sweet little boy!  He has SO much personality and knows just what he wants and likes.  I love our Wednesday afternoons together, after we drop Tommy off at school and it is just Nathan & I for 3 hours.  I feel so often he gets shuffled along in the chaos of life & since he is so easy going and doesn't complain, it's nice to have the one on one time with him.

Destroy!!

We have had a metal shed in the backyard forever!  It has definitely seen better days, the base was not built correctly & everything inside has gotten ruined, it is pretty useless these days.  Saturday I got determined that it was coming down!  I hired the boys as my help and we started with screwdrivers & went to work!
(Tommy surveying the work)
It was taking a long time with the screwdrivers, so we ended up using a sledgehammer!  Much more efficient!
David carrying pieces of the shed into a pile to take for recycling
Nathan helped for a while, then decided the trampoline was a little more fun
Tommy working on the shed
Tommy supervising David unscrewing!

Even Nathan got to help with the scewdriver!

Tommy
And the finished product!! A pile of metal that used to be my shed!!  I am SO excited to get the backyard put together better and make it so much more fun for the boys to play!
