week of thankful

this last week I have been thankful for... 

my kids teachers~ they are great!  Thomas is a totally different kid than he was in August when he started kindergarten.  He is excited about learning and it is getting to be less of a fight to get him up in the morning for school.  David also has really good teachers this year, one of them used to be a professional baseball scout, I think he is David's favorite teacher :)

for the heimlich maneuver~ Nathan within one week managed to choke on a dime while we were driving home & I had to pull him out of his seat to help him and then he snuck into a box of cookies I left on the table to take for the football snacks and as I came around the corner into the kitchen saw him, when I said his name he quickly shoved a handful of cookies in his mouth and tried to swallow them, choking once again.

grandmas~ not just my own grandmas, but for the boys grandmas.  I was at costco and Nathan was having a moment,  he was in desperate need of a nap and of course wanted to be held while I was struggling to push an over full cart and there was a sweet little grandma that came over to me, and started talking to me & Nathan.  Nathan let her rub his back while she & I were talking and she offered to push my cart for me :) I don't think she could've....I could hardly push it! 

cocomotion~ quite possibly the best thing ever invented for the winter!  Now that it's cold out, I have pulled it out and the kids love to take turns turning it on.

Mr.Clean~ my mop died....I had a swiffer mop and it finally kicked the bucket :) I bought a mr. clean mop and I love it!!!  My floor hasn't looked this good in a while!  And of course his erasers that take marker off the walls & doors (if I ever had a child do that!!)

Keith~  we had our 13th anniversary this week.  I am so thankful for all that he does for me & the boys.

haters~ yep, haters or people that don't like me.  But, because of you (haters) I am a stronger, better person.

David update

David went back to the orthopedic surgeon on Monday for his follow up.  He was SO nervous about his appointment!  They took off his stinky soft cast for a follow up x-ray and his finger had found it's way back to where it should be.  YAY!!!  I thought he was going to cry right then he was so happy!  

 But, it is still broken and is still a pretty serious break.  The doctor put him in a real cast for the next two weeks (minimum).  He was upset since that means he is definitely out for the rest of the football season and the rest of fall ball season.  

 David's club ball team is LV Rebels, their colors are red and black.  So he chose a red cast!  Way to have team spirit, mascot!!  Besides, it's easier to have people sign a red cast than a black one.

We go back in two weeks to do some more x-rays and re-evaluate.  The doctor said worst case he gets to be in the cast for a few more weeks, but if it keeps healing the way it has this last week then he will be able to keep the cast off and be able to start transitioning into normal life using a brace for sports!  That made David's day!  

catch up on thankfulness

This week I have also been thankful for 

Petsmart's 14 day fish guarantee~ we are on our 3rd fish in less than a week :( 

our Disneyland passes~ we have had so many great family vacations & have made some great memories and have had a lot of fun with friends and family because of them

for waterproof mattress covers~ Nathan does not believe in keeping a diaper on all night anymore....

and for Lidia!  I am SO lucky to have a sister in law like her and my boys are lucky to have her as an aunt! 

days 2 & 3

I had a crazy busy day yesterday & didn't get a chance to sit and blog, so today gets two thankfuls.

I am SO grateful for my friends.  I have some really good friends, some I have known for a very long time and some not so long.  My friends have helped me through some crazy, awful, great times over the years.  I do have one friend in particular that means a bit more to me.  Gina has been my best friend for as long as I can remember.  I know that I can call her day or night and no matter what she is there for me and will love me through anything whether she agrees with me or not.  I know that I will never find another friend like her.

 And I'm thankful for my siblings!  It is so fun to be able to have sisters and a brother and to be able to live close to most of them.  I know with them too, if I ever need them I can rely on them for anything. 

Thankful ~ day 1

I am so thankful for these boys!!  I love them so much!  They are all so different, but bring something special to our family.  There is never a dull moment in our house, someone always has something going on.  It is crazy, chaotic, noisy, messy, I could probably go on for a long time, all of these things the boys bring into my life but they also are kind, loving, sweet boys.  These kids are amazing, even through everything they are such good kids.  I can not imagine my life with out any of them.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!  We had such a fun Halloween weekend!  We went to the school trunk or treat Thursday, followed by the pumpkin patch Friday, the ward trunk or treat Saturday, carved pumpkins on Monday and trick or treated Tuesday!

Nathan LOVED the inside of his pumpkin!  I'm not sure if he liked scooping the pumpkin guts out or putting them back in best! 

David had a really hard time doing his pumpkin one-handed, but stuck it out! 

And much to my surprise....Thomas loved digging into his pumpkin this year!

We carved pumpkins with some friends.  Here are the 5 kids pumpkins all lit up ready for Halloween!

The boys got a TON of candy this weekend!  They decided to combine all their candy so they have more! Nathan had his first experience with pixie sticks and LOVED them!! 

Football

This last weekend David's football team had a double header.  They played really well & won the first game and in the final minutes lost the second game.  Towards the end of the first game David went to grab a kid on the other teams flag, since this player had his flag tied it didn't come off like it should and David after yanking it off got himself picked up off the ground and started shaking his hand and came off the field saying his finger hurt.  We thought he jammed his finger & gave him some ice.  He insisted that he was able to finish playing the game (against my advice, wonder where he gets that from?!) and play in the second game!  When he wasn't on the field he was icing his hand and insisting it was fine even though it hurt really bad.  We had a Halloween party Saturday night, after we got home from that he said that his finger hurt really bad, worse than earlier in the day. I looked at it and it was a lot more swollen than it was earlier and more purple/blue than before.  So, he and I headed to quick care to get an x-ray.  The doctor did an x-ray and said it was broken, and to wear this splint until it doesn't hurt anymore then he is able to take it off and return to normal activity, and prescribed him a pain med!   Knowing that that is not the way I wanted to take care of this, but welcomed the pain meds and splint, we made it through the rest of the weekend. 

 Monday morning I called our orthopedic surgeon and was only able to get David in with the PA.  His finger still didn't look or feel any better.  Once we were there they did another x-ray since the images that were supposed to be on the cd we got from quick care were not on there!  Here is one of the pictures (the best one) of his finger!  He ended up not only breaking the bone, just below the lower knuckle but he also broke his growth plate.  His finger is severely displaced and they aren't able to do anything for it at this point because it is so swollen.

 So they put him in a soft cast for the next week.  We go back next Monday to see the doctor and will have to do more x-rays to make sure that everything is healing the way it should be.  If it is, then he will most likely be in the soft cast for another week or two before moving into a splint.  If it isn't healing properly they will have to re-break it and set it so the bone & growth plate grow correctly. 

 He isn't a very happy kid right now.  He has 3 more weeks of fall football and 4 more weeks of fall ball (baseball) in addition to pitching lessons he has been taking for baseball and his normal club baseball team, plus getting a 6 week no PE note.  He is doing pretty good though, he is trying to be a good sport about it and is only needing pain meds at night to help him sleep.
